First Successful Communication with CatSat

July 16, 2024

After almost two weeks of nervous anticipation and diminishing hopes, CatSat has finally woken up and begun transmitting! CatSat's beacon signals were picked up for the first time on July 15 by PE0SAT-11, a SatNOGS ground station located in the Netherlands. At around 8 AM the morning of July 16, the CatSat team made their first successful contact with the spacecraft from the ground station on campus, sending a few pings to the spacecraft and receiving a response. Initial health checks showed the spacecraft is in a safe condition. This event marks the beginning of spacecraft commissioning and a major milestone for the program.
