In recognition of the impact the amateur radio community has had on this mission, CatSat is designed to give back to the community.
In addition to the 10 GHz primary science patch antenna and radio, CatSat carries a 5 GHz patch antenna that will enable the spacecraft to operate for limited periods of time as a linear transponder. During these periods, amateur radio operators will be able to use the spacecraft to repeat their signals, enabling communication with faraway stations.
Also, the data collected by the HF antenna will be made available to the general public and members of the amateur radio community as a resource for future researchers.
